BBC journalist wants to talk to emos! May 28 2008, 01:09 AM
Hi there I'm writing a feature for the BBC News website on the subject: "Who are the emo kids?" I'm looking to talk to emos about what the scene means to them and hopefully dispel some of the myths which have been propagated elsewhere in the media. Could anyone here help me out? If you've got five or 10 minutes for a chat today (Wednesday 28 May) you can reach me on 020 8225 8336. Thanks a lot! Jon Kelly

Just to let you lot know I spoke to Jon and hopefully we'll see a well balanced news article online unlike anything from certain newspapers. The link will be posted when it is published. The media really is getting interested in the emo scene / community so please talk with them if they ask on soEmo.co.uk.

Another email from my Inbox today: "Hello, I am writing from BBC Radio 4's Today Programme. We would like you to put one of your chief executives forward to take part in a discussion on your demonstration day, Saturday 31st May. We are also hoping Daily Mail Sarah Sand will also contribute. Please contact me on 0208 624 9650. Looking forward to hearing from you. Kind regards Maria Maria Maxwell Today Programme BBC Radio 4 0044 (0) 208 624 9650" Any help would be appreciated as I do not have much spare time sadly!

As Vic has mentioned I am mentioned in this article which is great to see. I will add a comment, which the BBC will hopefully publish when I get the time tomorrow. I recently read and commented on another BBC article, which shows at least they take the time to provide a relatively reliable view on the emo scene. You can find the article at: www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/chartblog/2008/05/the_war_on_emo_continues.shtml

I just caught this article a couple minutes ago! It's on the Top 5 most popular articles right now, and the comments at the bottom of the page mostly seem to be supportive. A lot of parents that realise chavs are the real problem in England.

Hi Matt I think there's a limit to the number of comments that can be published at the foot of the articles - when they get a lot of responses (as I think they did with this one) the people updating the pages tend to take a representative sample. The BBC Have Your Say boards are pretty much open, though - I don't know if there's a discussion there on emo? Hope you enjoyed yourself on Saturday, and I'll definitely give you a shout if I'm doing anything on the subject again. Best Jon Kelly Broadcast Journalist BBC News website
