Nothing lasts forever, But the time you spend, Just sitting around, Talking and chatting, Like good old friends, Is what makes time last forever, Makes it stand still for those moments, Those seemingly endless moments. Alas, I did not talk too much, I sat around and watched, The world go by with you, Taking in the surrounding life, Watching as you did with your, Wise, old eyes - just taking it in, Watching it go by as did your life, Watching as your life drained away. We knew you were ill, But knew you'd rather die here than there, That the comfort of your own home, Was durable, even through the pain, Through the pain of every passing day, That it was preferable than going there, And I knew, as I walked through the door, That you were no longer here. I was not there when you slipped away, Away from my life and ours, I wanted to, if I had known, I would have asked them to wait, If I knew it wouldn't have prolonged your pain, See, you had gone down hill, Since that morning, you had gone down, You went down, never to rise again. I miss you now as I write this, I miss you uncontrollably, I know you're in a better place, That you left this world to somewhere better, That when you left this world, It became dull and grey, That when you left this world, Apart of me left with you.
