She sat on the library steps and tried to dry her ever-flowing tears. The rain plinked on her skin like ice crystals. how can I go on? she mumbles in her thoughts as her family's scathing words sear through her mind like poison. Her black clothes becoming soaked, yet she still sits in the icy downpour like it was her only friend. No one was even noticing the tears dripping their destruction down her pallored flesh. As she sat, she watched cars pass. One... Two... Three... Pacing her breathing as she counted. How easy it could be... But no. She still had a few doubters to prove wrong. She stood, and made her way gingerly down the slippery steps. Squealing tires, and all the driver saw was the girl's tear stained, terrified face as his black BMW plows her frail body to the group. Blood and pain... Then... Darkness... She woke to aseptic and white. Wires and machines beeping. Her mother, crying. Her father, demonically furious. One question... One awful, awful question... "Why did you try to kill yourself?" Then... "I will not have a suicidal child." And her only family is escorted out. but... That car skidded into me.... Didn't it? "You're right...." She woke to a glowing stranger at her bedside, peaceful. "Am...am I dying?" Is all she asked. The stranger parts Ruby lips in a small smile. "No, brave one. You are not dying. Not yet. You did give your adoptive parents a scare, and they were angry at themselves... How fragile life can be... For in a blink... It's gone." And the strange visitor disappeared.
