Previously you could only disable profile comment and private message email notifications. Now you can also disable pic comment and friend request email notifications. This can be done via your account homepage. Please note as well as email notifications all your new notifications are shown on your account homepage and indicated on the user nav bar. I'm sure you already knew that though :D
