What has made you cut yourself? Sep 05 2010, 11:48 PM

heyy i just recently joined this website and i'm pretty messed up at the momment. I was wondering if there was anyone i could relate to, if anyone has had experances which have led to cutting themselfs and want to talk about it then yer just write it down ONLY if you r comfortable to talk about it. See i cut myself because i think i hav to punish myself pysically cos of what i have done

hi i used to do it as a relief, to take it out on myself instead of others, and because i was not able to deal with things.

I cut myself when my parents start fighting badly, I cut when I get in a fight with them. And I cut myself when i've done something wrong. But sometimes I cut myself for pleasure.

at first I cut myself as a method of dicipline, then I did it when I was really angry or sad, then it turned into a habit and I cut for pleasure and eventually I quit. Clean for over 6 months now, i think. I still have urges to cut though. It's a die hard habit...

Ahhh I talked to my counsler about it last year and we came to an agreement that I did it to have some sort of control in my life and for an anger release

i started because my brother did it and i thought maybe if he did it, it would help me too..then i got addicted and i did it for no reason i guess..id do it when i was sad about various things..id do it when i have relationship problems..basically i did it because of every little thing

I'm with you on that one I also got addicted then I broke away from it for like 5 months then started again recently but have stayed clean for a good week

I sometimes do it randomly,but I usually Do it when Iam angry or depressed..and Sometimes I do it when I regret doing something..[a mistake] ..etc..:/ And I stopped doin it for a while..but I started doin it again..It usually makes me feel better =/

ThE_UnforgivnUnloved It is very hard and time consuming to gain control. If you want to stop you need a lot of will and support from friends, people with similar experience and family (if you're sure they'll understand you and not make it worse by a lecture of how bad they think people who cut are). You have done very well that you started a topic here. I'm sure all the great people of SoEmo will help you get through :D

Okay, I carry 3 razorblades with me at all times and when I feel the need to cut I look at them and say "I don't need this anymore" ant thus I test and improve my control

Well, everyone on here seems to be doing it for similar reasons. I guess in a way, we all can relate, but i know we all have our own individual MAIN reason. Mine started when my brother passed. He was just a baby, i was young at the time, but it still didn't stop me from taking a razor to my wrist. I used to go to concealing for it. But not even they could stop it. Soon i stopped, but then more shit kept happening. I found out that my sister, wasn't actually my sister. I'd been lied to for 16 years, and she knew all along, and my parents. Ever since then, things in my mind haven't been too great. I wasn't doing well in school, i got my heart broken, and my best friend, and the only friend i had, moved half way around the world. So...i did the only thing i knew best. I cut...in fact, i cut so bad one time, i ended up in hospital. This was like..a month ago this year. I went to a unit for six weeks, and now im under the constant watch of my personal nurse Lynn. Who i swear im going to kill, if she asks me "how i'm feeling" one more time! Adults never get it. And i think, at times...we don't even get why we do it. Relief? Anger? Punishment? It all means the same in the end. Cause' in the end, we all get the same scars to bare.

my parents found out i was cutting myself right so if i ever get a cut on myself my mum freaks out and goes wats that?!? you did cut yourself did you?!!!and i burnt myself in a food class really bad wen my mum saw the burn she got angry at me its really confusing because i hate talking bout my probablys i hav cos sometimes i dnt understand why i can cry for hours n hours n get angry at myself ppl say if you ever need to talk too someone you can talk to me and i want to talk to someone but im too scared to ask plus i dnt like thinking about my problems cos it upsets me and i dont get it so i just block it out n if i get angry at myself i cut away talk about working out problems pffft

OMG i just discovered that those razorblades aren't sharp at all!!! I had a really bad day and almost cut myself again but even the razorblades wouldn't let me! so i just started a poem instead....:D Now. My mom has exactly the same reaction. She just goes nuts as if i was a terrorist or something...You do not have to talk about your problems if you don't want to but you do not have to direct all the anger at yourself either. I would suggest destroying other objects (paper,wood,empty pens etc.) instead of yourself 'cause a human life has a great value and can not be fixed easily.
