Your telltale heart is beating, unstable minds descend I’m through trying to reach you, I am the emptiness Our love will nevermore attach your soul to mine You don’t understand, time is on my side now baby And time is running out Catharsis, by Alesana

Is this right? Jun 30 2012, 05:21 AM
Emo means emotive hard core. proff from sites. The correct meaning of emo is emotive hardcore, a sub-genre of hardcore punk which still has it's roots in indie rock. Still, others consider it's only a brief way to call someone emotional, although they are not correct. Every human is emotional and it would be come a very brief word to describe many things. Emo is also about fashion, a way of dressing and expressing yourself through clothes and makeup. Some people believe that emo is a way of life and others believe it is a teenage grow out fad. Some people believe there are rules to being emo things such as never calling yourself emo and listening to the right bands. The correct term for what is generally regarded as emo is scene (despite the darker colors and the common lack of extreme cheerfulness). For the sake of simplicity, however, we will use the term emo. another site, Emo is a slang term known to be short for emotional, but that doesn't make much sense really. If you claim "emo" were to mean "emotional" it then becomes an all encompassing word. It becomes extremely vague and it has no limit as to what it can describe. Emo when wrongfully used to mean "emotional" describes every living thing, every song, every word, every breath, every statement. and one from wikipedia Emo is a style of rock music characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics. It originated in the mid-1980s hardcore punk movement of Washington, D.C., where it was known as "emotional hardcore" or "emocore" and pioneered by bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace. As the style was echoed by contemporary American punk rock bands, its sound and meaning shifted and changed, blending with pop punk and indie rock and encapsulated in the early 1990s by groups such as Jawbreaker and Sunny Day Real Estate. By the mid 1990s numerous emo acts emerged from the Midwestern and Central United States, and several independent record labels began to specialize in the style. So emo means emotive hardcore, the reason is that the roomers got out that emos cut themselves, is because the bulling they got from being different made them get disorders that makes them feel depressed all the time. also another reason is that they think they cant die, to prove they can, they cut themselves. No offence to emos out there, but if emo ment emotional, everything would be emo. But my friend whos emo says its emotional, which one should i follow, emo means emotive hard core or emotional, HELP!!!!!

A mix of the two. It's very very hard to define emo nowadays. Please read our What is Emo section if you haven't already.

But i keep telling her that emo was created by music, and she think SCENE created screamo, which is way off, she thinks emo is a emotional disorder.

Well, it IS a mixture, I mean being "emo" you do tend to be a little more emotional, which is why many people believe that's what it means. BUT, it is also emotive hardcore, a subgenre. A lot of music (MCR,Asking Alexandria,Enter Shikari, etc.) is labeled "emo music"
