How did you get into alternative music? Jun 25 2014, 02:05 PM

Hey guys, i'm just curious, how did everyone get into alternative music? For me it was through my dad, he was a metalhead growing up and he introduced me to what he used to listen too, like Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses, Nirvana etc. And he always used to watch Kerrang TV and so from a very young age (about 6/7) i was already listening to Slipknot, Deftones, Korn, Blink 182, Green Day,Linkin Park, Sum 41 etc. back when everything shown on rock music channels was either nu metal or pop punk. And it sort of started then. And i have always been curious how other people discovered alternative music cos not everyone can have had a family member introduce them can they?

For me it was the radio playing Fall Out Boy and Yellowcard and it sort of grew from there.

I saw the song boulevard of broken dreams on Disney channel (back then there was more of a tolerancy for punk) when I was like 8 and it all went uphill from then

When I was 14/15 my parents took me to a bookstore and said "Here's $10, go buy yourself a CD." I had never listened to heavy music before so I decided to try something new and take a chance on The Devil Wears Prada. I haven't looked back since c:

I got an alternative rock Christian band called Sent by Ravens CD from a bookstore... and then I started listening to Slipknot and everything else from there.
