Basically, my ex still likes me. We split up 3 and a half years ago, but we've stayed friends since, and suspected for most of that time that he still had feelings for me. He's now confirmed it. Now, I've been single for a year and a half, summer's coming up, and he's definitely learnt from his mistakes last time, so under ordinary circumstances, I would probably give him a chance. However, my friend Lauren, has fallen for him madly. She admitted it to me a few months ago, and for about a month prior to this, he hadn't been showing signs of liking me in that way, so when she described how he'd been acting around her, I thought he genuinely might have fallen for her too, and I encouraged her to go after him. I realised about a month ago that he didn't, when she actually told him that she liked him, and he didn't ask her out. I know this doesn't apply to all guys, but I know him well, and if he likes you, he'd definitely ask you out if he found out you liked him. I didn't have the heart to tell her this, partly because I knew how she'd react, and partly because she's been going through a lot of shit recently. But now he's confirmed that he still likes me... it's unfair to keep her believing that she stands a chance. I don't know how or when to tell her, especially as she's had some reaaaally bad news. Help?

Well, not much i can say other than, he likes you, she likes him, one question though? do you like him? if you don't and just want to give him a chance out of pity, then don't, just wait, if he isn't interested, he should tell her himself, even though she'd been through a hard time, but since she has, he should do it slow and gentle to not inflect her any harm, when people you love don't love you back you loose a part of yourself, you loose a part of the confidence you have in yourself and the self-esteem might stoop, so i think it would be better if he told her... im not good at these things, but take care of her and help her if she's had it rough.... nothing more i can say right now

I think you should tell her exactly like you posted here the chain of events that lead up to this, and do it gentle. I know how she might feel so when you tell her take good care of her and if you don't like him back, make sure to tell her that. She'll feel better. Don't tell her if you do like him because that will make her super depressed because then she might think you two are getting back together. If you do like him then take it exremely slow and be very courteous to her. (Like, don't talk about him in front of her and stuff.) Be a good friend. Don't be like my ex jerk-off friend who did the exact opposite... T^T

Thanks, this is a lot of help :) Do you think I should tell her over facebook soon, or face to face but have to wait for a while?

Face to face is probably better because words don't always come across like you mean them to when you type them. Good luck!
