How do you forgive yourself? Jul 09 2013, 09:46 AM

I know everyone has made big or small mistakes in their life. But sometimes you can't help but to feel so bad about it that you want to punch yourself in the eye. What's one way to teach your mind that, "Hey, it's okay. :D You're not stupid."?

Like, I don't know. When I make mistakes I feel so bad, like I get REALLY mad and punish myself. I try to make up for it. For example, I mistaken Motionless In White's album with A Day To Remember's. I felt stupid and I couldn't forgive myself. So I listened to all of A Day To Remember's albums for half the day. When I post a status with a typo, I get mad and make myself read the dictionary for 4 hours straight and practice my writing. Sometimes I even harm myself, which is not good AT ALL. Maybe I just take things too seriously. I think the best way to forgive myself is that even though I probably am stupid for making these easily avoidable mistakes, I can learn from it. I can try to self manipulate myself (Which is almost impossible) that I should laugh at my mistakes instead of feeling devastated about it.

very true ..if all things were perfect well that poses a different question entirely I rarely forgive myself for my mistakes which isn't great so just carrying on and pushing myself not to repeat the same mistake again is my best option really

I make some of the same mistakes over and over. I think we all do. It's not as simple as just "learning from your mistakes".

I think to some extent we all live with some form of regret and it's how you deal with it that counts and makes you a better and sometimes i guess a stronger person

Sometimes not thinking about it helps, and trying to make a logical excuse can help as well.
