Honestly I thought emos had died out until I saw a very young boy who seemed like he tried to be one. That got me curious. Then I found this forum which appears to be active. I got some questions for you. Why do you guys feel the "need" to be emo? Why hasn't the style changed at all since the beginning of the 2000s? Does it come with a personality? Are you aware of the negative attention you get from other people? (To us you look like people who are very sorry about themselves) Do you think it's a phase? How old are you? how long have you been emo? When I was 13-15 I was "emo". Meaning, I was a very depressed teenager listening to McR, wore dark clothes and makeup, had bangs. I felt horrible. Not until I got out of my shell and started dressing normally I got confidence, felt good about myself and got positive responses from other people. Aren't you just keeping yourself down with a style that indicates depression? Have a good day everyone

We're not all the same people, if I'd give you any answers you'd probably think I'm speaking for everyone who identifies as emo.

Emo is a subculture. It is not about being depressed or suicidal and self harming, as lots of media or other people may try to make you believe. Emo is about self expression, through music, appearance/fashion, writing, art, and other forms of creativity, as well as being open and in touch with your emotions, whether they are happy, sad, or angry. Just because someone wears all black doesn't always mean they're depressed. I'm 22 and I've been into the emo scene since I was 14.
