It was just the cat You say to your mom Hoping she won't ask you again Where you got the marks On your arms and on your legs You smile brightly at her Hoping she won't see right through it For now you are safe Safe from telling the truth You don't want anybody to know You felt bad Blaming it on the cat It was just the cat You say to your father Your mom asked your father To ask you Hoping you would be more open to him But just like your mother You smile and say It was just the cat Your siblings ask about the marks Your friends ask about the marks Even your lover ask about the marks Time and time again Everybody ask You smile to them all As brightly as you can As wide as you can Saying It was just the cat
