This is something I wrote at 4am while missing someone who left my life years ago. (Not through death, it just didn't work out between us) 
I'm not even sure if this can be considered poetry but this seems like the most apt place to leave it

I've loved you since the very first day. 
I've loved you since time stood still for us. 
I've loved you since the first 'Good morning- How was your day?- Goodnight.' 
I've loved you since the first time I saw your eyes, your lips, your smile. 
I fell for you because you're kind, caring, sweet, funny. 
I fell for you. 
Except, it didn't feel like falling. 
It felt like floating. 
I loved you with every fibre of my being. 
My heart broke when we said goodbye. 
It wasn't because I stopped loving you or you stopped loving me. 
We said goodbye because it hurt. 
It hurt every time I wanted to run to you. 
It hurt every time I was lying awake wishing you were next to me. 
It hurt to love you. 
Because I couldn't be with you. 

I love you. 
And I think I always will...
