How long have you been emo? May 25 2008, 11:00 AM

Just interested in this... I have been into the emo scene since 2003. Pretty tough to say when you turned "emo" I guess so you can say when you became "alternative".. This is all very stereotypical I know, but that's how society is.

I've always been intrigued with the style and occasionally bought certain articles that fit the image, but I never had the courage to delve into it until 2010.

Hmmm I think I've been really emo since the beginning of high school and got to the "peak of emo-ness" at the age of 17 (4 years) But since I turned 19 and my life/personality changed, I started feeling more Gothic than Emo...

5th grade and now im going into 9th...my brother started being emo in 7th grade (which was when i was in 5th grade)..he eventually just decided he didnt want to be emo anymore so now he just dresses normal but iv stuck with being emo cuz i like it..

about three years ago. i always liked the music and the dress sense but way too scared to be myself then one day i just thought fuck what people say and became 'alternative' and have never felt more comfortable in my own skin :)

Lets see. Me? Well, let's see... I've pretty much been headed this direction since I was about in seventh grade, when my brother got me into punk music and style, which was 3 years ago. But I didn't think I liked emo it until I met my ex-boyfriend two years ago. He got me into the music and the style. Actually, I didn't even realize that I was truly heading this direction until I was at the mall with him one day with my black jacket with bright stars and my red and black checkered wrist band AND converse and he randomly said "you would look good if you were scene." So then I decided I was going "scene". Well, after a while I figured out that scene sucks and is poser, and I was just a poor little confused emo kid. So I guess in truth, I've been emo for almost two years; I was just confused as to what to call it. I should have found it long before that (cuz I never fit in with anything until I went emo), but lets just say I used to be brain-washed when I was a kid so I didn't realize how cool it really is until two years ago. *deep breath* OK i'm finished with my monologue ;D

errrmm i grew up listening to 80's rock and then when i went to high school i got into more modern bands and the fashion :)

<b>Well i have always been an "alternative" person since i was a child. I never really socialized much,but just did my own thing. I been through the criticism and all but i just pray and let it go. I see it like this...Be yourself,do what you want,be you and true. ^^

I've went thru several phases, I was sorta punk like when i was seven up till about nine or ten, then I went goth up until I was 11 or 12 and then emo and recently like scene and raverish. I think at heart ive always been emo

Oh this is so sad but can anyone top 36 years.....cringeeeee in those days it was considered alternative to not wear a tie to go out.... then the punk thing came along and literally everything changed it injected a huge energy into everything especially of course music.Films at the time like great rock and roll swindle and Rocky horror show made an impression bands like ramones, slits, clash et al. Then was lucky enough to be in Sheffield in late seventies early eighties when Sheffield sound started with Human League, ABC, Heaven 17 but more exciting locals like Surface Mutants, Must be Russians, Pulp, Im so Hollow,Hula, Bass Tone Trap and The Box. OMG im sooooo old. Then things got a bit boring fora while untill about 2001 ish and lots of really good stuff started coming from USA. Present day music is nearly as good again ie Black Veil Brides, Eyes set to Kill, wheres it going to go?? what is the next big thing? Well thats enough

I been different since about 2/3 years ago but i was gothic first and then became emo. im more scene now though i guess x

I'd actually have to agree with Jordan, though now I'm more of one of those, Emo/Scene kids that gets away with hanging out with the semi-popular kids, because I have one friend in the group and no one else in my lunch period

I've always liked the gothic style, but tbh, I'm experimenting more with gothic now than I used to rather than the other way round :L I used to be kinda indie though :L
