My dad is an alcoholic he has been for about 40 years of his life my dad is 68 yehh he is old ! Well recently well the last 4 years he has been getting ill but has been recovering from it. However now he isnt recovering from illnesses but doesnt want help. He has gangreen in his legs they need to be amputated for him to stay alive but he wont do it. He has to much pride i think but he has me my sister and his grandaughter to think about. His liver is fucked only something stupid like 10% of it is working but he wont have a transplant even though they said he can be put higher up on this list because my sister and myself would pay for the transplant. He has been throwing up all liquids and solids he's dehydrated cant talk properly and cant walk properly. All he can drink now is milk he cant chew anything anymore half his teeth have fallen out where he has fallen over because he has been so drunk. Everyday he goes nextdoor where another alcoholic lives they drink about a few bottles of whiskey together. I actually dont know what to do. He wont go to the doctors he wont go to hospital but he really needs to. Can i force him to go ? My older sister is the next of kin but she isnt his blood daughter but she said i can make decisions and she will sign the papers as she is over 18. Can i force him to go for his own good ?

yes you can. and i would, he sounds like he's really bad. if you are the oldest blood reletive than you need to take the initative to get his legs amutated, get him his liver transplant and get him into rehab

This made me quite sad. I have some past experience with this as well with a relative. The sad thing is some people as much as you try don't want to be helped. Do everything you can though and never think to yourself you have failed.

My minds a mess. I have no idea what to do i have an exam in the morning and all im doing is worrying about him. I have failed him i wasnt there when he needed me now its gone too far.

u do need to force his hand even if he does hate u ud still be doing it for his own good, n maybe its the sacrifice u might have to make in order to save him from himself

He lied He didnt go to the doctors or the hospital He's dying all i can do is sit here and watchh Maybe i should do something about it I dont want to watch him die

Not with him he wants to die he can die i tried my all with him to the point i got ill I mean about me i dont want to watch and go through this shit anymore... </3

After reading your story I felt very sorry for you, my heart and my prayers go out to you and family. One thing that I have learn't is that sometimes it's best to do something than to do nothing at all. call the National Health Service or whoever can deal with the matter.

He's refusing to take tablets to eat or drink. Its now a waiting game for him to die. Thought i'd let you all know but iyou probably dont care haha
