I think of a moment of silence, As nothing more than lungs trapped in the depths of the shore. Fear is drowning my defenseless words, from in my heart's core. Like a raging ocean that spreads through my mind. The intellectual sparks behind my head are washed away from existence. Then and nothing, like a tsunami swallowing innocent people. The waves of anger push back and forth, and leave a town in a maelstrom. As these people scream and run out of sight, the waves catch up with them. They spread like words, and extended vocabularies. Suddenly they're there, then there's nothing. As if the colors of the rainbow are suddenly ran over with bleach. This frustration and explanation, can't escape through these lips and these words are left unspoken. At the tip of my tongue, this taste of saltwater reminds me of the pride that's broken. The pride in myself until I part myself to speak and what comes out of my mouth are muted words. Gasping for air and reaching towards the shore. The tide is rising. My vowels of purpose are forever swallowed, therefore I cannot speak. I cannot ride out these waves because I know they'll disagree. This shore is my fear, my shame is hidden. This fear of being washed away into the horizon. Let my mind flow with the sea instead of being trapped in the bottom of the ocean. -Britney

:) Thank you for reading it Matt. This was the first poem that I actually spoken out to a crowd for the Outwards Spoken Poetry Club.
